Insurance Under Geopolitical Tension

AWRIS participated in a high-level industry session organised by titled “Insurance Under Geopolitical Tension: War Risk, Trade Routes Disruptions, and Market Impact,” held at the Nile Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Cairo.

Representing AWRIS during the session were Mr. Imad M.Abdel Khaleq , Chief Executive Officer, AWRIS, and Ms. Lana Ebrahim Zainal , Chief Technical Officer, AWRIS, who joined leading regional industry experts and market participants to discuss the growing implications of geopolitical developments on war-risk insurance, maritime activity, underwriting practices, reinsurance capacity, and regional economic resilience.

The session explored key challenges affecting the insurance industry, including:
• Geopolitical instability and disruptions to shipping and trade routes
• War-risk and marine insurance exposure in high-risk environments
• Reinsurance capacity and evolving underwriting dynamics
• Emerging claims and pricing trends across insurance lines
• Risk management approaches and market resilience

Bringing together more than 140 senior business leaders and insurance professionals from across the MENA region, the discussions also highlighted the increasing importance of specialised insurance solutions and industry collaboration in supporting business continuity during periods of heightened geopolitical uncertainty.
